Wanted to give you a peek at our newest design, a Salvador Dali gallery exhibition poster we recreated from a 1967 original - an attempt to enter a surrealist’s mind. We incorporated ideas from our studies of published works and hurdles he dealt with in his lifetime. With nods to his wife and muse “Gala”. His long lost collaboration with Walt Disney. His private meeting with Pope Pius XII and his confusion with faith and a constant fear of death. He narrowly escaped with his life at an older age from a house fire and we imagine some difficult questions on fate and morality persisted to his final years.
We also wanted to be playful with what felt like a predominantly white poster and remove the monotony with aesthetic additions such as the door handle to the gallery, and the idea that you enter into his mind. The retro hand-made outlet cover that plays as lips as well as a portal to tap into his energy and psyche. And lastly his infamous mustache….here we took horse-hair violin strings and placed clips at points to structure its shape on each side to mounted eyelets in the puzzle. We have not yet finished cutting but wanted to show the final design before all pieces are cut.
